Ayurveda quick overveiw

Personalized healthcare

Ayur..what?

This is by far, my most frequent question I get when I tell people what I do! So, lets talk about the basics.

Ayurveda translates to "The science of life"

Ayurveda is a holistic form of medicine that originated in India over 5,000 years ago, and is commonly known as the sister science of yoga.

Ayurveda supports the balance of the mind, body and spirit through lifestyle, food, and herbs - emphasizing the importance of living in accordance with the cycles and rhythms of nature and creating balance.

Ayurveda believes that we all come into this world with a unique combination

of the 5 elements (Ether, Air, Fire, Water, Earth)

This combination determines our physical and emotional tendencies. Both internal and external factors can disrupt this unique balance within our bodies. If these go ignored for too long, the imbalances become

illness and can turn into full blown dis-ease.

Ayurveda recognizes that just as no two people are the same,

both the cause and treatment will vary from person to person.

One way we support this in Ayurveda - is that like increases like, and opposites balance.

By practicing Ayurveda, we learn to attune to our own unique physical and emotional needs

to stay in balance and optimal well being.

The doshas
your unique road map

You may be familiar with some elements for Ayurveda, and maybe have even heard of the dohas - vata, pitta and kapha. We all have a unique balance that we were born with, our Prakriti. When our personal blend of the doshas gets imbalanced that is where illness and problems can arise. Ayurveda teaches us to balance, listen, and adjust to our own unique bodies and dosha.

Grandmother wisdom

Ayurveda gives us so many beautiful tools to use every single day to nourish our unique body. It is both a vast and a very practical and individualized system.
